The next International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization will be
held in Sorrento, Italy, from 15 September to 18th September
2002.
This series of triennial Symposia, started in 1960, is seen as the
main international conference in this field.
The Symposium is organized under the auspices of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) working party on Crystallization by the "Associazione Italiana di Ingegneria Chimica" (AIDIC), is co-sponsored by AIChE and is the 630th event of the EFCE.
Over recent years there has been a huge growth of interest in industrial
crystallization, particularly from pharmaceutical, fine chemicals and food
companies, in order to seek better control in product quality.
Crystallization stands out from the other separation processes because
it offers the potential to combine purification and particle production
within a single step.
The Symposium is expected to provide a unique forum to discuss the latest advances in the theory and practice of crystallization. Its principal key aim is to gather people working on crystallization in different fields in industry, research centers and universities.
Papers are welcome from academic institutions and all the industries
involved in in the different aspects of industrial crystallization: fundamental
topics, new technologies, industrial and environmental crystallization
processes, pharmaceutical , food and biochemical products, nanoparticles
production, etc.
Abstracts (250 words in length) dealing with the general field of
industrial crystallization are invited.
The Symposium will cover the following topics:
Novel crystallization product and process: large tonnage and fine chemicals, pharmaceutical and food products
Design and operation of crystallizers: equipment, simulation, sensors, control of crystallizers
Fundamentals in crystallization processes: nucleation, growth, mixing and CFD
Molecular aspects of crystal growth: polymorphism, role of additives, nanoparticles
All paper will be given as poster presentations. Selected papers
will also be presented in a plenary session together with a few invited
papers. The official language of the conference will be english.
An award for presentation quality will be given to two posters.
Delegated will be issued with a paper copy and a CD-ROM of the Conference
proceedings (the student fee will include only the proceedings on CD-ROM)
Sorrento, known as the land of sirens, is the most beautiful and famous place on the Sorrento peninsula; it offers a limpid sea full of colourful bays, gardens rich in orange and lemon trees, and is renowned for its local handicrafts.
Any means of transport can be used to reach Sorrento, passing the most beautyful excursion destinations on the way. Thanks to a wide network of connections, Sorrento can be reached by land, sea or sky, thus satisfying everyone's needs.
Visitors arriving by plane land at either Capodichino or the new airport at Grazzanise after which they can continue their journey to Sorrento in a comfortable bus or taxi. If they wish, it is also possible to land at Sorrento by helicopter.
The "Autostrada A3" is the main road link for cars and coaches (Castellammare di Stabia exit). The Circumvesuviana rail link departs from Naples' central station and arrives in Sorrento in one hour.
An efficient hydrofoil service provides the 30-minute sea link between the stations in Naples at Beverello and Mergellina and the port of Sorrento.
The Symposium will be held in the Sorrento
Palace Hotel, Sorrento. The Sorrento Palace has the efficiency of a
high-tech Conference Centre, the prestige of a luxury hotel and the facilities
and services to give you the very best of the atmosphere and traditions
associated with Sorrento. Accomodation for delegates
at the Sorrento Palace is available on request. All lectures, poster
displays, coffee breaks, lunches and the welcome party will take place
in the Sorrento Palace.
During the Symposium, an exhibition will take place for companies to display
their contributions in Indurstrial Crystallization.
